Exposure equipment

Start by deciding how your film positive will stay in contact with the screen and how you will position the light. A standalone lamp solves the light source. A bundle can also include the pressure sheet and pad. The right fit depends on the screen opening, the working surface and the mount you can use.

Choosing exposure equipment

Compare how the lamp mounts

The Speedball 45490 uses a swivel bracket, while the Screen Print Direct ETEX-UVLEDEU mounts at the bench edge. Its corresponding exposure bundle adds a sheet, foam pad and step wedge. Check the pad’s size against the inside of your own frame and follow the unit’s instructions.

Test with the stencil you will use

Use the emulsion maker’s directions and the exposure unit instructions together. An exposure step wedge helps you compare levels with the actual materials. Record the screen and setup so you can reproduce a useful test.

Department questions

Do I need a full bundle if I already have a suitable contact setup?

Compare standalone lights by their mounting and positioning options.

Does the wattage tell me the exposure duration?

Follow the stencil material and unit instructions and calibrate for your setup.

Why compare pad and frame size separately?

Frames with equal outside dimensions can have different inside openings, which determine where the pad can sit.
